HubSpot Property of The Week: Last Referring Site

First things first, let’s talk about the elephant in the room — my mic last week! Ack! So sorry!

Trash Audio

Now, let’s move on…

Last Referring Site is the last website that referred the contact to your website. This is automatically set by HubSpot for each contact and looks at the last page viewed, so this site can be internal or external.

“What Are Some Ways We Can Use It?”

This property tells you how the contact got to the last page they were on on your site (landing page, search engine, etc.) — doesn’t that sound helpful for sales?

From HubSpot Support:

“The best use-case for this property is if you were recently featured in an article, on an external site, or have done a large campaign push someplace like Facebook.

In that situation, you could use this property to quickly filter for contacts whose last referrer was where the article, feature, or campaign was hosted.”

From Court at HubSpot Academy:

“(Use-cases include) understanding how traffic segments are accessing your site. Also, how your website traffic gets there if you are trying to optimize across channels.

“Why Is It Important?”

Last Referring Site allows you to drill down deep into where your traffic/leads are coming from. Probably more of a lead-by-lead basis rather than basing workflows off of this.

Our rating this week is: Meh for mass use, pretty cool for specific use.

HubSpot Wish List

This week we dove into the Mastering HubSpot Facebook group to see what the masses wanted and we came back up with this little ditty.

A “Non-form” Option in Lead Flows

I would like to add a Lead Flow to my page, but don’t want to have my visitors fill in their email addresses. Can you make this optional (even recommended) instead or required?

Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

Google Tries to Fix WordPress

WordPress is a lumbering behemoth of a content management system. It is slow and resource hungry.

However, it still powers almost a third of all web content. For that reason, Google has dispatched an elite squad to WordPress HQ to whip the CMS into shape. The partnership could be one of the most consequential for years.

Pillar Content Killed the Keywords Tool

This week we have an interview with Jeff Vocell and Angela DeFranco two smart HubSpotters from HubSpot.

The topic of discussion, how everyone is losing their minds about the keyword tool sunset. We also covered how and why this decision was made. (It’s not what you think.)

We then discussed how some of our other tools will still work even better without the keywords tool, how pillar content should be a main focus moving forward for almost everyone trying to do inbound marketing, and a short conversation on free and paid SEO tools.

[Now Live] Marketing Performance Widget has Moved to Sessions

Shocked

We have replaced the old “visits” metric with the new “sessions” metric on the Marketing Performance Widget.

Over the last few months, the sources report has been updated to reflect Sessions instead of Visits. By switching this metric in the Marketing Performance widget as well, you’ll have greater consistency in the reports you rely on to analyze your website traffic.

JustCall is a product that enables you to send, receive, record, and track calls and text messages directly within your HubSpot CRM.

For incoming calls, JustCall provides a direct link to the contact profile in HubSpot. This gives the agent context on the caller, which better serves customers. Access to analytics on recordings, voicemails, and missed calls that are both filterable by agent and exportable makes reporting easy.
